Design Engineer, Hemel Hempstead

 About the position

You will turn a creative brief or concept sketch into an engineered solution through technical development and your output will be a set of highly accurate technical drawings and specifications.  Your work will be centred around the design for manufacture of retail display equipment. You will need to field technical questions, understand grocery and non-food modular retail shelving systems and general design principles in the industry. Your knowledge of manufacturing techniques and standard details should be employed as close as possible to the start of the project.

This role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Produce technical piece-part, assembly, and GA drawings of new retail display equipment in Solidworks 3D CAD
  • Manage CAD files and design workflow within ITAB’s Solidworks PDM Vault environment
  • Apply catalogue numbers/coding to GA structure according to the desired operational output - i.e. Kit or BOM
  • Function checking of prototypes, supplier samples and first offs
  • Value engineering of existing designs & Follow company design standards
  • Participation in structural load testing
  • Assessing the structural integrity of suggested designs in conjunction with the associated Development Manager
  • Risk Assessments - Support the creation of this document against the template, seeking direction as required
  • O&M's - Support the creation of this document against the template, seeking direction as required
  • Assembly/Install guides - Support the creation of this document against the template, seeking direction as required
  • Attend working sites and trading stores to assess ITAB equipment in the field
  • Attend working sites and trading stores to conduct physical survey and capture detailed information for the purpose of tender submission

We ask:

  • Minimum 1 year of technical design experience, post-graduation in industry – essential
  • Experience at working at an equipment manufacturer with an on-site factory - essential
  • Shop fitting design experience - preferred
  • Solidworks – essential
  • PDM - preferred

  • Methodical and organised, problem solver & good attention to detail.
  • Ability to discuss, articulately all elements of the design process with colleagues from different parts of the business,
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and achieve co-operation.
  • Ability to work within a small team and with staff at all levels and with partner organisations, suppliers, and clients.
  • Use initiative to develop new and beneficial working methods.
  • Be receptive to fast moving, challenging, and rapidly changing and expanding operations.
  • Able to work under pressure in a calm and mature manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and constantly reappraise timescales and priorities, self-motivated

Qualifications:

  • A degree in product design or engineering with a course emphasis on the technical rather than the creative elements of mechanical design
